Match Highlights : Arsenal Young Guns out of NextGen Series after 4 3 defeat to Chelsea after extra time

29th March 2013 By ArsenalSupremo

Arsenal failed in their quest to lift the NextGen Series title as they were defeated 4-3 after extra time in a thrilling tie against Chelsea. It was a superb performance for the Arsenal young guns as they battled their way from 3-1 down then 2 goals in the last 5 minutes pulled it back to 3-3 with a fantastic goal from German sensation Gnabry to level the score.

However in extra time Arsenal players began to tire and in the 116 minute Lewis Baker’s strike sealed their passage to the finals and they now play Aston Villa while the Arsenal have to play Sporting Lisbon to settle third place.

The pitch was horrendous to play on out there in Italy which didn't suit both teams nevertheless the game was still very entertaining. It was really tough to watch the match live at the end of the game after seeing the all the effort they put in they showed great determination and most of all they should be proud of what they have achieved getting here in the first place defeating the likes of Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and CSKA Moscow.

Despite the loss it was a tremendous effort from the talented youngsters, we did see some stars of the future that could become 1st team regulars in the future hopefully. The one with the best chance of doing so in my opinioin is Serge Gnabry. Who do you think could make it feel free to leave your comments below.

Twitter Reaction from the Players

Terry Burton the coach spoke of his disappointment losing in the semi finals

"A semi-final is a horrible place to lose a game and you struggle to take positives out of the game right now. But I'm sure when we look back on it, we'll see there were some excellent individual performances."
